Up and coming band P.K gave a memorable performance that met the expectations set by their debut album, iSOFT, and proved that they are ready for the change of direction that their highly anticipated second album looks to be taking them in.

P.K have been touring their debut album, iSOFT, for almost 18 months now. After spending three years defining their sound and image at Leeds University, P.K produced a commercially successful LP without betraying the band’s principles. New to the scene, P. K were afforded the luxury of audiences having no pre-conceived perceptions of them which allowed the band time to grow. With fans now wanting new material it is time for P.K to prove themselves as serious contenders and live up to the hype that surrounded their debut effort.

The ‘difficult second album’ is a phrase that haunts numerous bands and a hurdle that many fall at. It is clear however from tonight’s performance that P.K work well under pressure, displaying a confidence and ability onstage that proves that they are ready for the next step and this is testament to the hard work that they have put in since releasing iSOFT.

The new tracks that are showcased tonight display a new direction in P.K’s music. There is an evident move away from the standard structures and melodies found in iSOFT to a more cultured sound that is complimented by passionately delivered lyrics concerned with social justice.

The band may be young but their music shows a maturity beyond their years. What may be perceived as a lack of experience at first glance is actually a breath of fresh air and brings an enthusiastic and energetic quality to the stage.

Throughout tonight’s gig, we have seen the band work together to deliver a polished performance that mixes old and new songs giving fans a glimpse of the band’s follow-up to iSOFT. Their second album was recorded at a city centre studio in Birmingham and rumours suggest that it will be called WhatsOn. From what the audience have witnessed tonight, the new album is creative, well-structured and full of passion, P.K have a bright future ahead of them.
